This Sesame Chicken recipe is really quite simple and absolutely delicious! The combination of sweet and savory is incredibly satisfying! And the hardest part of the recipe is mixing the sauce ingredients together, which isn't difficult at all!
Why This Sesame Chicken Is Going To Be Your New Favorite Weeknight Dinner
- Fast. A cook time of less than 30 minutes.
- Easy. Toss the chicken drumsticks in the delicious homemade sauce after you bake and enjoy!
- Low Carb. Only 7 carbs per serving.
- Delicious. Packed with yummy sticky sesame chicken flavor.
What Is The Difference Between Sesame Chicken And General Tso's Chicken?
The difference between the two is generally the level of sweetness. Since this is a low-carb chicken recipe, it is saltier than it is sweet.
It is also served with a sesame seed garnish whereas General Tso's chicken doesn't have them to finish.
What Is Sesame Chicken Sauce Made Of?
How To Make Sesame Chicken
- Line a pie plate with foil. Don't be lazy about this step otherwise, you will either be scrubbing forever or end up throwing out the pie pan.
- Heat oven to 425 degrees F.
- Lay the drumsticks out on the pan.
- Mix together the sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Taste and make sure it's to your liking. If I were making this for myself, I'd add a few red pepper flakes.
- Pour the sauce over the drumsticks and make sure they are well-coated. Move them around, flip them, put them on their sides, just make sure the chicken has saucy goodness on it.
- Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes. Flip them over and cover with the sauce.
- Cook for another 5-10 minutes or until the drumsticks are cooked through.
I really must stress the importance of lining your pan with foil before putting the chicken in the oven! When I say sticky Sesame Chicken, I really do mean STICKY Sesame Chicken!
If you skip this step, you'll find yourself scrubbing the pan. And scrubbing. And scrubbing. You may even find yourself throwing away the pan altogether! So do yourself a favor and make sure you don't skip this step, okay?
Make sure you cover the chicken with the sauce thoroughly. This is Sesame Chicken after all, and the sauce is what makes the dish, so you want to make sure the chicken is absolutelycoveredin the sauce.

Hi Urvashi,
Could I make this in the air fryer instead of the oven? How long would you air fry this?

400F about 18 minutes, then flip and continue to cook for about 5 minutes 😊

Being KETO, what would the equivalent for brown sugar be with say Swerve Brown Sugar or a similar product?. I know a dab of molasses can help achieve the "brown sugar" deepness of flavor, would it work here?

I love lakanto monkfruit golden! It subs in really well for brown sugar and honestly I use it in any recipe that calls for white sugar too.

This sounds so delicious! I'm thinking of using the sauce to make sticky wings instead of legs and cooking in my airfryer. Have you tried it or any suggestions?
