Ocean Rover suffered engine room flooding

On June 8, 2015, at 2 a.m. the "Ocean Rover" started to take in water in the engine room. The crew of four of the North Shields-based trawler contacted the Coastguard when they were 10 miles east of Sunderland. A crew from Tynemouth RNLI and a helicopter from Humberside was sent out to the men. The volunteer lifeboat crew found that the skipper had managed to seal the leak and had started his bilge pump to remove the seawater. With a large amount of water still to remove, the lifeboat’s salvage pump was put on to the trawler and used to empty the engine room. Meanwhile, the rescue helicopter had arrived, but as the emergency situation was over it was stood down and returned to base. Hidden stowaways found at North Shields

Hidden stowaways were discovered on the "Starward" with no power or heating on June 24, 2013. Safety fears sparked an operation on the vessel at North Shields. Immigration enforcement officers were called into action at around 6.25 a.m. after the Coastguard raised concerns over the safety of the boat. Officers questioned four men on board and then arrested them for overstaying their visas. All four, two Indian men, both 35, and two Filipino men, 30 and 34, were transferred to immigration detention pending their removal from the UK. The team from launched a probe on the "Starward" and discovered there was no electricity supply or heating.
