An Electrified D-28 with Modern Refinements

Martin's D-28E Modern Deluxe is a refreshing take on the classic D-28 dreadnought — the big-bodied acoustic that may well be synonymous with the acoustic guitar itself. Its spruce Vintage Tone System (VTS) top has been torrefied for maximum projection and harmonic excitement. The dovetail neck joint reinforces the classic Martin tone. And with its European flamed maple binding, gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and unique 1930s-style logo on the headstock, the D-28E Modern Deluxe looks unlike anything else from Martin’s production line. You also get Fishman's VT Aura Blend pickup system for premium plugged-in tone, both for session work and stage performances. Complete with other modern advancements and a Vintage Deluxe neck shape designed for maximum comfort, there’s a lot to love about the Martin D-28E Modern Deluxe acoustic-electric guitar from Sweetwater.

Classic design.
Modern Enhancements.

Luthiers at Martin are happy to embrace modern enhancements if it means better tone for you, the player. In the Martin D-28E Modern Deluxe, you’ll find modern advancements such as a steel truss rod and Liquid Metal bridge pins. And the inclusion of a carbon fiber bridge plate boosts volume without adding weight. Even the neck shape has been refined for maximum playability and comfort. Martin fans at Sweetwater are wary of changes to a winning recipe, but we’ve embraced the sound of Martin’s Modern Deluxe improvements.

VTS aged to perfection

Martin has perfected the process of torrefying its top woods and bracings to achieve the sound of an aged and broken-in Martin. The Vintage Tone System (VTS) lets Martin age the woods to a specific age/time period without the typical change in color of the wood from the torrefaction process. A special vintage gloss finish is then hand-applied to give the guitar the coloring of a vintage instrument. Martin’s guitars with VTS tops and bracing not only look like vintage guitars, but they also have that sought-after sound.

Premium tonewoods serve up timeless tone

A quality acoustic guitar is all about the wood, and the Martin D-28E Modern Deluxe serves up a classic tonewood co*cktail with no compromises. The top is solid spruce for big projection and spectacular note clarity. Its back and sides are made of solid East Indian rosewood, a classic Martin material. A genuine mahogany neck and dark-chocolate ebony fingerboard give the D-28E Modern Deluxe incredible playing ease to match its awe-inspiring sound.

Powerful sound, full bass

The Martin D-28E Modern Deluxe acoustic guitar offers the deep bass response that's made Martin dreadnoughts so popular. Yet this guitar also has a high-end presence that sings out even in heavy instrumentation. Dynamic, rich, and full, the powerful voice found in the D-28E Modern Deluxe has made this style a staple in the bluegrass world, with a bold sonic signature that stands up to any genre.

The standard for acoustics

Among the great instruments Martin makes, it's safe to say that none has enjoyed more popularity than their line of dreadnoughts, or D-size, guitars. Currently regarded as the standard acoustic guitar, dreadnoughts such as the D-28 first became popular for backing up vocals, fiddles, and banjos in country and bluegrass music. The D-28's reputation as one of the recording and performance world's premier acoustic instruments continues today in the tastefully enhanced D-28E Modern Deluxe.

Martin D-28E Modern Deluxe Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Classic Martin style and tone with modern refinements
  • Vintage Tone System (VTS) ages the woods to a specific age/time period
  • Solid spruce top yields great projection and note definition
  • Solid East Indian rosewood back and sides for a well-balanced tonal range
  • Modern enhancements include a steel truss rod, Liquid Metal bridge pins, and carbon fiber bridge plate
  • Vintage Deluxe neck shape is designed for comfort and playability
  • Fishman Aura VT Blend pickup system gives you premium plugged-in tone

The best guitar I’ve ever owned!

Wow! This is a special guitar. I've had the good fortune to have played a lot of Martin's. This Modern Deluxe is my favorite for the following reasons: 1. The tech is next level. 2. The flame maple binding, herringbone purfling, and abalone script headstock inlay and fret side-markers add a boutique vibe. 3. While it sounds a bit different from a standard D28, I personally love the new sound. It's definitely still that Martin sound but the best way I can describe it is to say, "it somehow has even more of that Martin sound—more sustain, more note clarity, and more of that piano-like sound. 4. The neck fits me perfectly and makes this the most comfortable Martin I've ever played.
